Eatons' Ranch — Guest Ranch in Wolf, WY

Listing details as of Sep 14, 2026

The oldest continuously operating dude ranch in the United States, 18 miles west of Sheridan on 7,000 acres.

Eatons' Ranch sits 18 miles west of Sheridan on the eastern slopes of the Bighorn Mountains, reached via U.S. Highway 14 through the town of Wolf, Wyoming. The ranch traces its history to 1879, when three Eaton brothers began hosting guests in Custer County, Dakota Territory, moving the operation to its current 7,000-acre Wyoming site in 1904 — the origin point of the American dude ranch industry. Guests can ride any of the ranch's 220-plus horses unescorted after a riding orientation, rather than being limited to guided group rides only, and the property can accommodate up to 125 guests across 51 individual guest cabins. Stays are typically booked by the week rather than by the night, in the all-inclusive format common to working dude ranches, covering meals, horseback riding, and access to the ranch's private land along Wolf Creek. The ranch operates seasonally rather than year-round. Reservations and current rates are available directly through the ranch's own website or by phone.
